Terms of Service

Last updated: May 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of mcpcert.org (the “Service”), operated by the MCP Client Registry project. By registering an account or submitting a client registration, you agree to these terms.

1. Use of the Service

The Service is provided for the purpose of registering and validating MCP Client ID Metadata Documents (CIMDs). You agree to use the Service only for lawful purposes and in accordance with these Terms.

2. Sandbox Environment

The conformance sandbox is a testing environment. Tokens and authorizations issued by the sandbox carry no authority outside the sandbox. Results are provided for diagnostic purposes only.

3. Hosted Documents

By submitting a registration, you authorize mcpcert.org to host the generated Client ID Metadata Document (CIMD) and associated platform verification files at URLs derived from your registered application name.

4. App Name and Trademark Responsibility

When you register an application, your chosen app name becomes a permanent, publicly accessible subdomain of mcpcert.org (for example, https://{appname}.mcpcert.org/oauth/client-metadata.json). Because this URL is publicly hosted and functions as your OAuth client identity, the name you choose carries legal and reputational weight.

You represent and warrant that:

  • The app name you register is not a trademark, brand name, trade name, or other identifier of any company, product, or organisation that you do not represent or have explicit authorisation from.
  • You will not register names that could deceive third parties into believing the hosted CIMD originates from, or is endorsed by, a well-known brand (for example: google, openai, microsoft, anthropic).
  • You acknowledge that mcpcert.org may suspend or revoke any registration that, in its sole discretion, infringes or is likely to infringe a third-party trademark, without prior notice.

You are required to explicitly confirm these representations during the registration process before your application can be submitted.

Indemnification. You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless mcpcert.org and its operators from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or related to your choice of registered application name, including any claim that your app name infringes a third-party trademark or other intellectual property right.

5. Other Trademarks

No affiliation with Anthropic. “Model Context Protocol” and “MCP” are trademarks or service marks of Anthropic, PBC. mcpcert.org is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Anthropic, PBC. The use of these terms on this site is solely to describe interoperability with the Model Context Protocol specification.

Third-party authentication brands. Sign-in is provided through Google and GitHub OAuth. “Google” is a trademark of Google LLC. “GitHub” is a trademark of GitHub, Inc. mcpcert.org is not affiliated with or endorsed by either company. Use of their sign-in services is subject to their respective terms of service and privacy policies.

mcpcert.org marks. “mcpcert” and “mcpcert.org” are marks of the MCP Client Registry project. You may not use them in a way that implies affiliation with or endorsement by mcpcert.org without prior written permission.

6. Disclaimer

The Service is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We make no guarantees of uptime, accuracy, or fitness for a particular purpose.

7. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to update these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
